J.Crew Sued Over Cardigan

Hello Everyone,
Last week J.Crew was sued for naming
a cardigan "Duquette Leopard Print Sweater"

J.Crew is a multi brand specialty retailer
that offers an assortment of women's, men's and children's apparel and accessories.
Including swimwear, outerwear, loungewear, wedding, bags, hair accessories, belts, jewelry, and shoes.
It operated 321 retail stores throughout the United States.

Apparently J. Crew named the cardigan after Tony Duquette,
an interior designer known for his use of Leopard Print
on fabric, wall papers, furniture etc.
Duquette died in 1999, but his company continues to show spot prints everywhere.
Hutton Wilkinson who has accused J. Crew of trademark infringement.
Wilkinson is not claiming money but is not happy about J.Crew using it's print without permission.

The cardigan was replaced with this one

  1. I guess J Crew should have checked with his estate before!

  8. That's a beautiful cardigan. I wouldn't have noticed that they used the Duquette print... until they named it after him. I'm surprised that a major retail store would fail to ask permission.

    Thanks for sharing this.

  22. Wow, trademarks and intellectual property, and large companies doing whatever they please. Say what they may, the cardigan may bring the attention back to that interior design company if they just let it.

    XOXO
