Derek Lam - Doing line for eBay!!!

Derek Lam

I want to start this blog by talking a little about who's Derek Lam.

Derek Lam is an American fashion designer.
He was born in San Francisco, California in 1967.
He's family is from Chinese descendense.
Lam is the youngest of three children.

His parents had a business that imported clothes from Asia.
His grandparents ran a successful garment factory in San Francisco that specialized in bridal and wedding dresses.

Lam graduated from Parsons School of Design in 1990.
He began working as an assistant for Michael Kors in the 90s.
After working with Kors for four years he then moved to Hong Kong to work for a large retail brand.
When Derek returned to New York he started working as vice President of Design for Michael Kors' Kors line.

In 2003, he launched his own label.
He debuted at the New York Fashion Week in September 2003.
In 2005, Lam won the CFDA Perry Ellis Swarovski Award for new designers and then started his own line of clothes.
He also has a line of shoes and jewelry.
He also works as Tod's Creative Director for ready to wear and accessories.

"Lam is known for his pretty, girly fabrics backed by clean, crisp silhouettes. Signature pieces include raw silk sheath dresses with plunging necklines, wide-leg trousers in various wools and dainty cashmere pea coats cinched with stiff silk belts."

Derek Lam has signed with eBay to create an exclusive ready to wear collection that will be shown in New York Fashion Week in February.

This deal will give Lam the chance to reach a wider group of consumers. When the line is shown in February shoppers will be invited to vote on their favorite looks on eBay and that will determine the final assortment that will be available for purchase in the spring.

Lam said " Having a direct and immediate dialogue with the online audience is what makes fashion exciting and relevant in this moment.  eBay's technology offers me a unique and innovative opportunity to reach new and existing customers directly, and to create fashion they desire."
