Fashion & The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

~ October is recognized as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
~ A pink ribbon is a symbol of breast cancer awareness.
~ It may be worn to honor those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

My mini sketch in support of the pink ribbon.

~ Susan G. Komen for the Cure gave out pink ribbons to participants in its NYC race for breast
cancer survivors in Fall of 1991.

~ The following year, the editor in chief of Self magazine, Alexandra Penney and Evelyn Lauder of Estée Lauder, came up with the idea to create a ribbon and to procure that cosmetics giant distribute it in stores in NYC.

~ Many critics opposed to the use of the pink ribbon as asymbol of breast cancer. The breast cancer awareness campaign was accused of commercialization.

~ The pink ribbon is not a registered trademark in the U.S.It can be used by anyone and can be use to promote commercial products. The Breast Cancer Action launched the "Think Before You Pink" which encourages to use the pink ribbon for good.

  2. I like those people who are in the world of fashion slash who are also aware on giving importance to human life. Conducting a fashion show for a cause would be a great suggestion if you wanted to help those breast cancer victims. A collection of mother of bride suits would be great for your show.
